Young Justice

CN hyped a new show called Young Justice last year and I was really excited. I loved Justice League, JLU and Teen Titans so I was pretty stoked for another show following a storyline I haven't read before. In comics its a promotion from Teen Titans and pretty much the last step before members join the Justice League. Wiki it if you want to know more. Anyway, CN aired the shows and as expected I loved them. Then after 8 episodes they stopped. Its been nearly half a year with no word as to why they stopped and now I come across this poster for the next season of YJ.



I'm sorry CN, but I'm a little confused. I'm glad that YJ is getting another season but why would you only show 8/26 episodes, go on hiatus for 5 months, leave everyone in the dark who think it's been canceled only to start hyping the next season as if nothing happened!?!?!? The workload for this show must have strained all the writers, artists and animators. I don't want this series to fail, nor be wiped from existence like a certain other show -cough-Symbionic Titan-cough- but come on CN, don't be leaving us in the dark about these things.

The character designs are pretty boss.

UPGRADE

Back in 07 the book store went under some renovations. The electronic store was moved into the old arcade, next to the pool hall, and was moving back at the end of that year. I wanted to buy a G1 Shuffle because everything there was on sale, which I presumed was because they were moving back to the bookstore and were trying to lighten the load. What I saw was a wacom tablet for only $100 down from $250. Deals? Fat deals! So I bought it and promptly skipped my math class in order draw this in Hamilton.



I forgot how long it took but man did I have fun drawing it. Nothing beats pen and paper but boy did I love using my tablet. It was MAGIC, and I touted it as such to my little cousins and relatives. I've been using my tablet for loads of projects, and it DEFINITELY helped my wrists. Alas, earlier this year my puppy, Blacky (Didn't name him) chewed through the wires and turned it into a paperweight. I haven't done anything on the computer since.

Today I bought an Intuos4 with my tip money from Lovefeast and this is the first drawing I did with it. Nothing fancy, just work as usual.



I was genuinely surprised at the size of this thing. It's bigger than my macbook pro and twice the length of my already oversized sketchbook.




Word of caution to potential buyers. It WILL NOT make you a better artist. Drawing and painting in real life will. Tools don't make an artist, learning the craft will. (I say this after posting a terrible job of rendering scales and shadow in the of my first time using a tablet)

Why? Because I don't know why

Squats and Oats

Back in freshmen year my tower dorm mates Tony and Dana got me going to the University's Gym and I've been going every since. I've had my fair share of gym stories though this one takes the cake.

>Walk into gym.
>Breeze by the trainers.
>End up talking to the gym's owner.
>Get challenged to a contest.
>Find out the gym leader uses rock type Pokemon and my starter Pikachu can't take on his Onix.

So pissed.

Comic book movies

I've been dying to get my Shark and Swan film to be made, but it's still really really really really far away from being fully realized yet. I have a general story, some character designs, and an idea but I need to think a lot of things through before I even start working on it. Its basically a superhero film about a a dynamic duo with something more important than secret identities. Cryptic, I know.

In preparing for it I've been watching, studying and researching other superhero films and reading my Campbell book. The new Batman films worked because they had a story and Watchmen was based on a literature masterpiece. It'll be easy to make something flashy with awesome fighting scenes while pandering to other comic book nerds with fan service, but thats not my goal with the film I'm planning.

I finally got to watch the latest animated movie from DC and I enjoyed it. I still like Under the Red Hood the most out of all the movies so far, not because I'm a Batman fan but because I think it had the best story out of the rest. Go watch Green Lantern: First Flight, Superman Batman: Public Enemies, or Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths if you haven't already and are a fan of DC. Marvel's Planet Hulk wasn't as good as I thought it would have been, so read the comic instead haha.

Superman: Doomsday had the best animation in part because it utilized Bruce Tim's (Superman: TAS, Batman: TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League and JLU) character designs.

So anyway, the latest addition to the comic book movie library is Superman Batman: Apocalypse, but could have easily have been called " Supergirl" instead. The movie focused on the origin and struggles of Kara (Supergirl) as she tries to fit into the DCU. Superman, Batman and Wonderwoman (Whose name is absent from the title for some unknown reason) have equal parts and are shown as much as the other but the story struggles since it's trying to juggle between these three powerhouses while also being a coming of age story for Kara.

The action scenes however, WOW. Choreography of the fights were excellent, especially the climax at the end. I re-watched the last 10 minutes a few times just to take notes. My biggest complaint, next to the movie name, were the character designs. The females looked fantastic but the males...uh looked a bit too girly. I think they should have toned down on the mascara and pouty lip look. The lips especially caused a lot of vibrations in the animation when they talked and looked like they weren't worth all the effort.

Halloween Costume Progress

For years I've been telling people that I'm going to be a Blue Ranger (Season 1) for Halloween but I don't have the kind of funds for that dream to come into fruition...BUT!

After coming across this Halloween Costume last year, I've wanted to do one of my own. I already know how to use maya, and I've always wanted to do a paper craft so I figured that this year was about as good as any to try making my own big head. After looking at Eric's model, I realized that mine had waaaaaaaaaaay too many polys so now I'm in the process of simplifying it and turning my quads into triangles. I did a quick texture on the high-res model just to see how it would look like and I'm totally stoked. My model still needs heavy tweaking but I can't wait to finish it.

After I'm done with mine I'll work on Roel's. One week to bust these out and finish my 11sec entry, ahhhhh snaaaaaap.
