    Losing things

    As I was uploading new photos I lost track of what I was doing and ended up digging through old photos. I came across these three photos with stuff I've lost or given up over the past two years. I remember being super depressed losing my duct tape hat because it was a very special gift from one of my friends back in high school. Plus it had duct tape all over it so it was automatically awesome to begin with. My brown hat was also an important gift that was lost to the wind as it blew out of my car last year.

    I've had two long boards stolen since college started but losing them wasn't as depressing as giving away my bamboo board
    as "reassurance" to a later to fail long distance relationship.

    But none of those could ever be as bad as to what happened two semesters ago. After finally buying my own 'vintage' jeans for $160 bucks, the week thereafter I couldn't find it anywhere. Upon asking my mom if she had seen it anywhere she simply replied,

    "Oh, I sent those and your other old pants to your relatives in the Philippines"

    I cried, I had never worn them once and it was the first (and last time) I've ever spent more than $40 on an article of clothing. Serves me right for falling right into Abercrombie & Finch's clutches.

    Naruto Deaths, Retconned LOL

    Yeah sure, lets just bring everyone back to life.

    Kakashi death -> Manly tears
    Konoha nuke'd -> Shit just got REAL
    Sage mode Naruto -> Epic
    Emo Pain backstory -> Bearable
    LOL I TROLL U -> ಠ_ಠ ...

    Yakuuuuuuza Girl

    So, one of the recurring topics that happens between me and my friends is the discussion about whether or not one of our bosses is Yakuza. Her name is Ali and is near top of the food chain at the waterpark. Now she appears to be a normal Japanese person at first glance, until you notice all the tattoos she has.

    Right now you're prolly thinking "Well maybe she just likes having a lot of tattoos" and you may be right, but that won't be the only reason why we think shes Yakuza. Shes been able to hook up people with the most RIDICULOUS deals, ever. Want an iPhone? $20. Labtop? $100. She knows a lot of people, and knows how to get things from them.

    When we went out to celebrate another one of our co-worker's birthday at D&B's, she was able to get the pool room and the roof for us the whole night just like that. We keep hearing more stories about limo rides, going to high end restaurants for free, her getting hundreds of $ worth of drinks at bars and not having to pay a thing.

    Even in the off chance that shes just a normal girl whos SUUUUUUUPER well connected and just happens likes full body tattoos, we'll keep believing that shes Yakuza. So in the off chance that we mess up reaaaaaaaaaaaally bad at work we all got pinkies to spare. Plus having a Yakuza boss sounds pretty attractive. I've always wanted to be a henchmen for a femme fatale.

    You (Guitar) from ひぐらし

    Oh JESUS! I'm hitting up my guitar shredding friend Rick all summer until I learn how to play this.

    God damn you 4chan, I remember

    Tatsuki and Chad were my favorite characters. Kubo, why you gotta do them like Pluto?

    Shoulda tried for Kamehameha Schools

    This quiz made me lulz all hardcore ladat.

    I'm a...Japanophile?

    Starting today I'll be forcing myself to actually speak Japanese with some of my Japanese friends. I'd usually get away with simple 'yes' 'no' and 'how are you?' phrases as I'd be listening to what they were saying instead of replying.

    But now I need to turn on the NOS, and drift my way into Japanese fluency.

    Name Calling

    When we claim to have been injured by language, what kind of claim do we make? We ascribe an agency to language, a power to injure, and position ourselves as the objects of its injurious trajectory. The insult, however, assumes its specific proportion in time. To be called a name is one of the first forms of linguistic injury that one learns. But not all name-calling is injurious. Being called a name is also one the conditions by which a subject is constituted in language. Does the power of language to injure follow from it's interpellative power? And how, if at all, does linguistic agency emerge from this scene of enabling vulnerability?
    The problem of injurious speech raises the question of which words wound, which representations offend, suggesting that we focus on those parts of language that are uttered, utterable, and explicit. And yet, the linguistic injury appears to be the effect not only of the word by which one is addressed but the mode of the address itself, a mode-adisposition or convention bearing-that interpellates and constitutes a subject.

    The first two paragraphs of a book my friend Dave needed to read for his English Class. It's mind boggling how unnecessarily long winded it is, and how this author feels the need to show her linguistic prowness through dry, overtly technical sentence structures which sound horrible when read out loud.

    Thank god I'm not an English Major, I can't stand these kinds of readings. -.-

    Smooth Moves

    Split a whole cup of grape soda on my lap as I was reaching for some bratwurst across the table. It wasn't that bad, just had to Feng Shei the wet boxers as I sat out in the sun to dry. The worst part was waddling around trying to avoid the bees flying around my crotch.

    Weird Stuff Outta Nowhere

    You ever have days where you notice something off? Like something there that wasn't there before, or recognizing someone but not knowing who they are or why you know stuff about them? I had quite a few of those moments today, pretty freaked out right now.

    I had to sit in the Graphics Lab almost all day today and there were 6 people who I recognized and knew, but didn't know where. This one kid had a shirt with a design that I originally made and printed 5 years ago, and while collecting paper in the room there was a girl who wrote her 'J's, 'W's and 'E's like me. Earlier that day I on my way to the classroom there was this pillar off to the side of a building that I have never seen before. I coulda sworn it was never there when I was in school, but the way its attached to the building shows that its been there all along.

    And when I came home and logged onto my Youtube account there was this playlist that wasn't there yesterday.

    I don't know enough Japanese to know how to make one so I know I didn't make it.

    Singing to the Heavens

    There is but one person who is known throughout the land of Kapolei. For as long as since the days of Middle School, this person has blessed the main walkway of my hometown with only his scantly clad body, weights (sometimes a tennis ball), shorts and fanny pack to show. Everyone in Kapolei and Makakilo knows him as the Makakilo Man, and has lovingly been adopted as our city's mascot. No matter what friendly aura you'll exhibit, you will end up feeling ashamed, threatened, confused and inadequate after a long stare down as he passes you by like some common commoner.

    Like some mythical beast he deserves your awe and respect, but is always mentioned in hushed tones. You don't want to mess with him, the rumors about his life are as large as the legend himself. Our group made a song about him a year ago and last night we did a punk version of it. Peep it here

    If you gotta facebook, heres the full version of the original

    Muscle March for the Wii

    I SERIOUSLY DON'T EVEN HUH THIS DOESN'T MAKE WAT

    Celebraing the Mind and Body

    Ahhh so saaaaaad yesterday ;_;

    Went to UH's graduation ceremony yesterday to see friends with their diplomas. I got to see Leighton and Jean whom I've known since my freshmen days back when I dorm'd but I couldn't find my sempai Angie anywhere. Looking around at the graduating class I saw a BUNCH of people from my freshmen/sophomore classes dressed in green and celebrating with family. I felt like I was being left behind, and it was kinda depressing.

    If Linda hadn't caught me at one of Chris's ACM presentations I know I would have graduated after my Fall08 semester had I stuck with my BFA in art. However after watching Crystal's final animation she uploaded yesterday and rewatching all the classmate work, I know that I made the right choice in sticking with ACM. The assignments and future opportunities are more worthwhile and I feel that creating animation is what I was born to do, even though I'm not good at it ha ha.

    I didn't want to believe it but Ralph, whos story you're all familiar with, entered a bodybuilding and won! I wanted to celebrate with him and the rest of the students but it was during the graduation ceremony so I'll have to congratulate him in person come Monday.

    It's sad to see them leave since they're seniors. But as a plus side a few of them are going into UH next semester, and into the ACM program.

    Fantastic Finals

    I was at work yesterday admiring this shirt printed by a student in the Graphics room next door when I happen to get a text message from my one of my classmates in my ICS class.

    試験は9:45!

    I coulda sworn the final had the time 11:45 on it, which was what I thought was the time the exam would start. It did, but that was when it would end. It takes about 40 minutes to get to school and it was 9:30 when I got the text. FUUUUUUUU-

    I got there 40 minutes late but finished the test without that much trouble. At least, thats what I've convinced myself of since I had originally planned to study a few hours before the test T_T

    Getting the Job Done and Party after

    So I felt pretty accomplished of myself today at work. Spent the whole school day working on my class's HQ printer so that everyone could print at ultra sexy quality. God bless you Google, I didn't just buy stock from you to get rich later, you're also why the world goes round. What did I have to do? Why I:

    - Read the printer manual and skimmed a Printer faq site so that I knew my printer terms and what I needed to do to get what my boss wanted out of the printer
    - Found and installed paper profiles from a Spanish site
    - Got better drivers from a Japanese web site
    - Overcame the school's web site blocks with proxies and 1337 html haxzzoring to access the next set of sites
    - Made 4 accounts to different tech web sites in order to access their support pages and learned some tips
    - Downloaded a program that bypasses the original print box dialog in Photoshop and Lightroom, Indesign etc.
    - Downloaded another program that gives more control over the printer that allows you to adjust ink density, print speed, drying time between passes, etc.
    - Bought a cheap usb stick to turn into a dongle that has an encryption key in order for the downloaded programs to work
    - Convinced my friend to give me his old monitor-printer calibration kit by buying him a bucket of KFC chicken and complimenting on his good looks
    - Went to OfficeMax to buy ink because after printing 20 test pages I realized that it ran out of yellow
    - Made a custom printing profile for consistent ultra sexy printing
    - And finally installed onto all the computers everything they needed and networked all the computers to the printer

    After making contact with my friends after being MIA for a month I found out about a season finale Lost party being held by Tony. I HAD to go, home (especially my room in particular) had become immensely depressing from all the homework and studying. After spending a good hour driving around Hawaii Kai desperately trying to read their street signs on the light posts and having to make multiple forced turns on our way there we made it on time for the show. I haven't seen Lost since the second season but if you're wondering what a Lost party looks like, it looks like a bunch of people playing Smash brothers and Planet Puzzle League with Lost playing in the background.

    Splurging

    I usually have 3 cup nudoos for the night if I'll be up till morning but today I found a nice fat wad of crumpled dolla bills ($10) in the pocket of one of my jeans. Free money, Bonus! Went out and bought some fast food, got a 5hour energy, poured hot water into my saimen and now I'm gonna eats it up.

    Jealous? You shouldn't be, after all not everyone can afford such fine dining, especially art students in particular.

    Spending today with someone special

    I'm getting pretty nervous right now, in a few hours I'm gonna pick her up from her working place. Shes sweet, caring, but the quality that describes her the most is over protective. Even though we've known each other for a looooong looooong time, I don't know what I'm suppose to do. I don't have anything to give her and I'm pretty low on cash so I figured I'd have to make due and get the most bang outta my buck.

    You think moms will like Star Trek?

    -Edit-

    She did, until Spock's mom died. Then she looked at me as if I was implying something.

    With Students

    I wasn't suppose to go out last night but my co-worker at the high school, Lummy, was throwing a party for her students... oddly enough some of them just so happen to be my students as well. At first I was just going to drop my little brother off and pick him up later but after spending a whole day inside drawing, I figured I deserved to enjoy the night.

    Usually when students ask me out to a party, that means they want me to buy drinks or hang out with them while they're drinking and doing some other illegal stuff I don't want to know about. It was nice hanging out with these guys because I knew they arn't like that. The sketch book pages above were from Lummy, after finding it laying around I just had to take pictures of all the cool stuff she had in there. Shes a UH alumni from the design track so I had a blast talking about faculty and old art projects.

    キタ━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━ッ!!

    HOLY SHIT. Anonymous actually did it.

    The Katawa Shoujo VN demo has been out for a whole week, but I can't touch it until my month long block is lifted T____T

    What is Katawa Shoujo? Its a Visual novel (Like those Goosebump books where you make choices but with pictures) about girls with disabilities. I remember contributing ideas and some concept art to this project waaaaaaaaaaaay back when the idea was sparked in 4chan's /a/ some years ago. To the left was the page that inspired the project. Just to make it clear, both this and Clannad are NOT H-games.

    Out of the loop, wat I don't even...?

    10 yogurt snacks for $7.30 but the limit per customer is 5 pieces. And to show how long I've been out of touch with my friends, I JUST found out last night that my friend Cha buys babyfood, to eat. Now I've known him for 9+ years and while his personality and actions have been questionable and deemed borderline sexual harassment by nature, this stuck me as being one of the oddest, most eyebrow raising moments in the history of my life. Believe me, it was a very profound moment.

    A 21 year old, seriously deliberating on which flavored pack of babyfood to buy and subsequently eat sometime in the immediate future. Cha, you so cuhraaaazeeeeh.

    Pirouets and Summer Sunshine

    It was great hearing Ron Howard talking about the industry and how he got into the business. I love listening to older people whenever they talk about their life because they have so much wisdom behind their words. Plus they have some pretty fantastic stories, like really really really cool ones that deserve to be animated shorts or movies ha ha.

    I hope everyone has a productive summer, what with our animations due in 2 weeks and all. I'm done with all my work, so all now I can focus on our semester long project. I felt bad for not sticking around after class to say my goodbyes but I promised my friend that I'd see her Ballet recital which had started a few minutes after we got our picture taken, made it on time thankfully. It was fun watching the performance, I don't have to pretend to be cultured now ha ha.

    I think the best thing about this semester is that we arn't as sleep deprived like last semester. Have a good one guys, can't wait to see your projects, hope to see all of you guys tonight at the animation fest!

    FF Pictures

    It's good to mix things up every once in a while. I'd usually be playing video games Friday nights but going out pretending to be cultured is fun too. I always look forward to seeing Indigo's resident breakers busting out a few moves, the galleries were filled with the usual touristy 'Island art' but this one piece of a glass dress and bird in the back was super pimp. As we were killing time outside, Chinatown had a hardcore 20+ policemen crackdown. Like the kinds you see in the movies. Pretty cool.

    First Fridays @ The Loft

    Now I'm not a 'clubber', or even an outgoing person in general (Don't let my in-class personality fool you, I'm actually quite shy and very introverted) but I do enjoy going out to look at the galleries in Chinatown every First Friday. I run into a lot of art department classmates and its a trip seeing their work up. With deadlines coming up I shouldn't be going out but I have friends who happen to be in a fashion show at The Loft and I haven't been to the breakdancing sessions at Indigos in forever.

    Its a good experience so I suggest you guys try hitting up Chinatown whenever its the first Friday of the month. This also marks the last day I'll enjoy the outside world since I'll be all alone in my room animating for the next 2-3 weeks. T_T
